I found this movie to be pretty gripping at times and really loved the acting particularly in some of the stronger characters. WHY DOES THAT LOOk LIKE ZOMIBIE Spiderman. But it’s not 2019, when even the most dedicated of hermits can feel connected to others through the Internet. Griffin’s analog setting is the summer of 1977, when New York’s then-notorious version of urban decay had segments of the city ready to ignite, while a steady stream of news about “The. 44 Caliber Killer” — a female-targeting serial murderer soon to be known as “Son of Sam” — had single women on edge, especially those with long, dark hair, like June’s. But despite a typically committed performance by Watts, once again showing her special affinity for hard-edged sufferers grinding out a way to survive, and an aura of the familiar and off-putting (reminiscent of Griffin’s 2010 indie debut “Two Gates of Sleep”), “The Wolf Hour” struggles to justify its increasingly grating moodiness. It doesn’t work up much steam, neither as a single-location paranoid thriller nor as an especially revealing character study of self-imposed, jittery confinement. Initially, though, the sickly green, Fincher-ish tinge to Khalid Mohtaseb’s cinematography — which captures the thin film of sweat on Watts and the pungent layer of neglect over everything in June’s apartment (formerly her grandmother’s, the previous tenant) — and the ambient sound design hold the tense promise of an intriguing dive into a worried mind. Outside, the Bronx rattles, moans and yells, while inside, in dim light, we can hear the buzz of flies, but more urgently, to June’s fragile sensibility, the sinister crackle of her intercom, as if someone is desperate to get inside her building. Whenever she tries to answer it, though, no one seems to be there, just distortion and faint talking. Is this a prank? Or is she imagining it? June’s interactions with detectable humans, on the other hand, amount to prickly exchanges built around necessity. She can shove money under the door when rent is due, but when the grocery store sends a new delivery kid, Freddie (Kelvin Harrison, Jr., “Assassination Nation”), her guard goes up, especially when he asks if he can use her bathroom. She’s not crazy about having to accept her sister Margot (Jennifer Ehle) as a concerned visitor, but June begrudgingly allows it, even letting slide cracks like Margot’s after some helpful cleaning, “I keep expecting to find a dead body. ” Also Read: Andrew Lincoln to Star Opposite Naomi Watts in 'Penguin Bloom' Sibling rivalry rears its head, though, after their conversation discloses that Margot, also a writer, never had success the way June did with her counter-culture smash novel “The Patriarch, ” hardback copies of which litter the apartment. I wish we didn’t have to learn about the book’s impact — including a key piece of psychological information — from a TV interview clip that awkwardly recreates a late-’60s interview show with an imperiously judgmental William F. Buckley-type (Brennan Brown, overdoing it). It’s a heavy-handed bit of shoved-in exposition that disrupts the already-wearying aura of housebound anxiety in the movie’s Hitchcockian shout-outs and “Repulsion”-like set-up. Then again, regarding the latter reference, perhaps one of Griffin’s goals was to refashion Roman Polanski’s horror classic about a delicate beauty’s corrosive fear of sexually liberated society into a more timely scenario that adds political existential dread and the historical reality of sexual violence as thematic hues. When June finally gets a cop (Jeremy Bobb, “Escape at Dannemora”) to make a house call about the menacing buzzing, it devolves into a believably danger-filled exchange surrounding male institutional power. Later, the appearance of a want-ad-solicited “date” named Billy (an effective Emory Cohen), a self-proclaimed “midnight cowboy, ” carries its own mini-rollercoaster of suspicion, sensitivity and worry. Again, there’s admirable visceral oomph to Griffin’s final push as that infamous night’s destructiveness becomes impossible for June to ignore, but what we’re left with as an emotional climax is lacking and, one could argue, predictable considering the protagonist’s profession. There will surely be buzz surrounding Watts, who conveys utter dedication to June’s predicament even as the movie around her betrays a stylistically engineered quality. “The Wolf Hour” is, in a sense, almost too smart for its own good: savvy about the movie language of cooped-up constructs, aesthetically bold in look and sound, and content to let a great actor lead the way. I can't imagine the fear they must have felt when they knew it was possible the heat shield could have been damaged. These guys made it through A LOT during this mission, it was truly a miracle they survived.

The true story of the astronauts of the Apollo 13 mission back from 1971 captured the world and its people at the time gripping them with death-defying suspense. The film Apollo 13 does more than a magnificent job of imitating this space navigation near-tragedy. The real life details from this NASA lunar mission may be a little technically shaky but Apollo 13 depicts the event in a cleaned presentable way. It's just a tad too pretty though it's painted in a polite light so it's perfectly fine. I particularly enjoy, even possibly prefer the lighter lens it's filtered through. It certainly does not devalue the movie in even the slightest degree. Apollo 13 is one of the most incredible family dramas. The minor flaws of it, the direction is a bit rigid, the on screen story needs a broader scope, it could have used a vaster array of supporting characters, are noticeable, but forgivable. It doesn't fully diminish the overall greatness of this amazing cinematic achievement. The daunting and heartfelt nature of this storied event overwhelms and awes the viewer. What a spectacular feat for humanity. These astronauts endured an unbelievable journey to the moon and back. Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert are all American heroes. Apollo 13's filled with stars, having a great mixture of genuine talent and chiseled acting. Ed Harris is a damn powerful actor in amongst the very best and extraordinarily mister Tom Hanks is even better. Hanks and Harris are astounding in their roles as Jim Lovell and Gene Kranz as the two men hold most the mass in this heroic space adventure. Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon and Kathleen Quinlan are all strong in their supporting roles and they're all tremendously impassioned. Gary Sinise shines bright, giving us one of his best lovable performances. Ron Howard did a great job with what he had to work with; this is obviously one of Howard's best films. I greatly adore Apollo 13, it's a wonderful and an amazing movie, a 9.5 out of 10! I already have and will certainly continue to watch over and over again this touching and marvelous family adventure.

A testament to greatness on the part of those involved. All you had to do was stir the damn tanks CJ. This story is very relatable. Because the three of us friends got stucked inside the bathroom within 3 days... I still dream to be an astronaut. In the movie they make it seem like there are 50 million steps between ignition and liftoff. lol. Apollo 13 strain. Comme cadeau de Saint-Valentin, il n'y a certainement rien de mieux. La dernière année a été marquée par de grandes fresques comme Parasite,  qui a remporté contre toutes attentes l'Oscar du meilleur film. Tout aussi important et inspirant se dresse  Portrait de la jeune fille en feu qui agit à différents niveaux. Il y a d'abord celui cinématographique, évidemment, qui happe dès les premières minutes, magnifiques à bien des égards. Après une courte entrée en matière, le cinéphile a l'impression de se retrouver devant l'exquis The Piano de Jane Campion tant la photographie et les soins esthétiques atteignent des sommets, se déchaînant littéralement sur une petite île bretonne de la seconde moitié du 18e siècle où Marianne (Noémie Merlant) est embauchée afin de peindre à son insu Héloïse (Adèle Haenel) qui doit bientôt se marier. Deux solitudes qui finiront par disparaître comme peau de chagrin. Lorsqu'elles sont ensemble, les champs contrechamps n'ont plus de raison d'exister, les plans s'allongent et le temps ralentit. Une histoire d'amour naît littéralement sous nos yeux, celle du coeur et des arts, qui prend forme par le jeu extraordinaire de ses deux interprètes et par la mise en scène faussement académique de Céline Sciamma, qui laisse pour l'occasion de côté ses récits d'apprentissage ( Tomboy, Bande de filles). Plus encore que sur son excellent La naissance des pieuvres qui a lancé la carrière d'Adèle Haenel, elle filme la lente montée du désir avec une rare maestria, attendant le bon moment pour la laisser rejaillir. Un plaisir sensuel et intellectuel qui pourrait cependant paraître trop chaste et froid pour certains spectateurs. Portrait de la jeune fille en feu est toutefois bien plus qu'une romance comme les autres. Son scénario puissant, à juste titre récompensé au dernier Festival de Cannes, se décuple encore et encore, à la façon de ces dialogues parfois récités dont chaque mot évoque mille images. Les héroïnes, prisonnières des conventions patriarcales de l'époque où leur destin réside au mariage, au suicide ou comme religieuses, soupirent en rêvant d'un monde meilleur et plus égalitaire.  Une soif de liberté que l'on retrouvera, l'espace de quelques jours, dans ce lieu pratiquement dénué d'hommes, où les femmes n'auront aucun autre choix que de s'entraider. Cette solidarité donnera par ailleurs naissance à quelques moments qui élèvent l'âme et d'autres carrément bouleversants, comme cette finale sous les airs de Vivaldi qui hantera longtemps. Le récit semble relever de l'utopie. Sauf que la réalisatrice et scénariste française ouvre le champ des possibles en rendant l'impossible souhaitable et même envisageable. Tout passe ainsi par le regard. Celui de Marianne pour Héloïse qui la considère comme son égale et pas comme une simple muse. Une foi envers l'autre, même si le mythe d'Eurydice n'est jamais bien loin et que les illusions risquent d'avoir le dernier mot. Puis il y a le regard de la cinéaste qui s'intéresse et montre ce qui est généralement peu représenté à l'écran: le quotidien d'une peintre dont les créations sont trop souvent absentes des musées, un amour lesbien, une séquence d'avortement, etc. Sa sensibilité féminine et féministe transcende l'écran, faisant de cet objet essentiel un long métrage politique s'inscrivant parfaitement dans son époque, où le regard féminin vaut malheureusement encore moins que son pendant masculin. Pourtant il mérite seulement d'être reconnu, soutenu et encouragé, ce qui pourrait un jour ou l'autre transformer l'art (le cinéma, la peinture... ), la société et le coeur des gens. À classer instantanément parmi les plus belles histoires d'amour de la dernière décennie aux côtés de Carol, Call Me By Your Name et La vie d'Adèle, Portrait de la jeune fille en feu a tout du chef-d'oeuvre instantané. Comme cadeau de Saint-Valentin, il n'y a certainement rien de mieux.
